You are a growing tree

Stand before the majesty of a large tree and ponder its development

Ever feel impatient for results in your practice? I sure have. There have been times when I thought all this sitting, standing, moving, etc. was getting me nowhere.

But then I look at a beautiful tree and ponder how long it took to become what it is.

Bit by bit over time it spread its branches. Leaves opened to the nourishment of the sun. It swayed in the wind, absorbed the rains, and slowly grew into this beauty.

This helped me remember that cultivating internal skill is exactly the same. Each practice can seem disconnected to other ones. The promised skill often felt so elusive as to be unreachable.

But over time, things started to change. What was mysterious and fleeting became natural and simpler. While there is always something new to learn, there was definite progress.

And all of it was the result of keeping on, even though imperfectly.
